This 1960’s picture shows the hive of activity around an aircraft whenever one arrived on Gan whether carrying freight or passengers. Although many goods were delivered to Gan by sea, delicate, costly or highly perishable goods usually came in by aircraft such as this Continental Airlines DC6 Cargo plane. An aircraft arriving at Gan could be turned around and on its way again, faster than at any other RAF station in the world. |
